Adaptive Skeeing at Wolf Creek

Today we went to Wolf Creek to support Karen as she became the first person to ever ski at Wolf Creek on a ski bike.  Bill, the Adaptive Instructor who taught Karen how to ride in Durango, came all the way here to show the Wolf Creek Ski Patrol what Karen would be doing.  He also taught us how to help her.  We are planning to go to Durango and become Certified Adaptive Volunteers so Karen can ski at Wolf Creek with us instead of having an instructor with her.  It doesn't cost anything for us to get the training and becoming certified will mean Karen can do a lot more skiing.  Plus we can help other disabled skiers when they come to Wolf Creek to ski on their ski bikes.  Karen may be the first, but we don't expect her to be the last.

It was a gorgeous day and with the recent powder the conditions were ideal.  Here are some pics from today's fun...  enjoy!
This is Bill. You may remember him from the Purgatory pics.
Bill is an AWESOME instructor with 16 years experience.
The guy kneeling is the supervisor of the Ski Patrol.
It was fun to be there with/for Karen today.
Getting on the lift is a bit different with a bike!
Scott holds the bike on the way up.  Karen will hold it herself when she gets a lighter ski bike of her own.  For today, though, she had plenty of help.
It's hard to see but Karen is holding the bike now and is popping a "wheelie."  This is how she gets off the lift. It's really cool looking!
She drops the front ski and hops on.
And then she takes off smiling.  :)  One time today I was on the lift and she was skiing underneath me, and I could hear her laughing before I could even see her.  She loves riding that bike.  :)

That's Ken and Scott up ahead of Karen.  It was really fun to ski with Scott today, even if he does ride a slowboard, um, I mean, a snowboard.  He was really good and it was fun following him over some little jumps.  And he showed us some powdery places we didn't know were there.

When I took this picture, Scott was saying something like..  "There is a Heaven,
and it's right here on Earth, at Wolf Creek."
Liz came up to show her support for Karen too. Yay!  I love Liz.  :)
And thanks to Scott being with us today we finally got a picture of both of us with our favorite Wolf Creek view in the background.  Thanks Scott!

And thank you Karen for asking us to be a part of something SO COOL!
